History and Brief Explanation of NWP Mfg was established in December 1989 when the manufacturing division to The Werner Company, an industry leader in the manufacturing of floor sweeping compounds, was purchased by the shareholders of Neo Wood Products, a leading manufacturer of solid wood bunk beds. Previously the Columbus based Werner Company had purchased shavings and sawdust from Neo Wood's machining operations in Alvada Ohio. This new entity of NWP Manufacturing immediately gained market advantage by having raw materials on site, eliminating the two hundred mile transportation expense. In 1995 Neo Wood Products' sales declined, the company was sold and later went out of business. To maintain and control the necessary availability of sawdust, NWP purchased a tub grinder and related reduction equipment and started a recycling division. The concept was to take scrap pallets and wood and reclaim the reusable lumber to re manufacture pallets,all the remaining lumber would then be reduced to sawdust and used in the sweeping compound division. Therefore NWP could once again maintain its market advantage and at the same time enter a new marketplace of recycling and custom pallets. Through family and employee commitment, both divisions have grown, but the progress has been hard earned and hard held. In June of 1998 a devastating fire spread through the sweeping compound division and challenged both divisions. It took seven fire departments and over a hundred fifty firefighters to save the pallet division, but the sweep division was destroyed. We were left with two buildings and our pallet equipment. The first step to recovery involved moving our pallet division to an off site location, then we salvaged and redesigned the sweep department in the existing buildings. We tore down and removed the damaged buildings and rebuilt on the existing foundation, we then moved the off site pallet operation back to NWP. In accommodating the added expenses from the fire along with the normal overhead of production of NWP has learned new disciplines while still maintaining and expanding a leading market identity. We are here today, in full operation because we work hard together and offer a product built on pride teamed with service and quality. |
